Fishing for carp on the river
Catching a large carp is a reason for pride for the rest of your life. Catching carp on the river in summer is very effective. The bite of this powerful fish makes the heart beat faster, and playing can be compared to a wrestling match. Anyone who has experienced this will remember these moments forever.
Carp is really a very strong opponent. To defeat him, you need to have nerves of steel and strong hands. He doesn’t just resist, like his cultured cousin, the carp. The force with which he pulls the tackle, even seasoned fishermen can be confused, what can we say about beginners. Usually, a person who is hit by a carp for the first time is seized by real panic.
Carp activity throughout the season
The carp is caught exclusively in the warm season. There is no point in catching it immediately after the ice melts. He comes to his senses for a long time after hibernation, slowly sways, with a more or less stable bite begins to please only by the end of April. And if the spring was cold, then generally in May.
The best time to hunt him is summer and early autumn. From about mid-October, when the first night frosts come, this fish stops actively feeding, so the capture of a handsome man in late autumn can be considered a pure coincidence. He hibernates in deep holes, food at this time is not at all interesting to him.
Features of catching carp on the river
The wild carp finishes spawning with the end of the flood period and water flowing back into the river. He returns with her to the places of his permanent deployment. As a rule, these are river turns with great depth and rapid current. In such areas, fishing is extremely inconvenient, especially the flow rate interferes, so you have to use rigs with heavy weights.
I like the carp and impassable snags located near the channel holes. Looking at such a craving for “strong” places, one gets the impression that this fish is trying in every possible way to complicate the task of anglers. It is sometimes impossible to examine areas that are promising for fishing even from a boat using a depth gauge, not to mention tapping them with a special marker weight. Here, hooks and cliffs are a common thing. To avoid losses, many fishermen use a rough rod and line with a diameter of up to 1 mm.
For this reason, it is better to catch carp from a boat with side fishing rods or bottom tackle. If the choice is made in favor of the donkey, then it is advisable to use a longer rod. For example, 3.90 meters. When playing, it will be more effective at absorbing strong jerks, thereby removing the load from the hands. Also, the advantage of a long rod should be considered the possibility of long casts, due to which the fishing area is significantly increased. It is also easier to raise the fish above the water. What for? A carp that has swallowed air is much easier to pull out.
The hooked prey should not be allowed to run freely, but it is also not worth fighting furiously with it for every meter. You just need to keep the thread taut and wait for the fish to weaken. After that, you can slowly pull up, trying not to make any sudden movements, otherwise the frightened carp will arrange a second “performance”.
This fighter has one cunning trick. When he is already within reach, he makes a dash towards the angler, dives under the boat and tries to start the rig by the anchor line. That is why it is advisable to catch a trophy carp with a partner. While one is playing out, the second must quickly lift the load holding the floating craft. Perhaps, without an anchor, you will have to ride a little on the reservoir. Well, let him pull and lose strength, sooner or later he will still end up in a net. And most importantly, the tackle will be saved.
Tackle for carp
Monofilament line is more suitable for catching carp. He bites too vigorously, and the elastic monofilament absorbs jerks well, especially powerful first blows. If you put on the braid, there is a risk that he will simply tear his lip. And when fishing from the shore, in the case of a deaf hook, the braided line will have to be cut and said goodbye to a good piece of expensive material today.
By and large, the carp rig is the same as the carp, except for a few minor differences. Mounts are different, they are selected depending on the fishing conditions.
The “deaf” variants with the self-undercutting effect show themselves quite well. It is advisable to use two leashes at different heights: one will lie on the bottom, and the other will be located above it at a distance of 20-25 cm. Thanks to this, after a few bites, you can accurately determine which horizon is the object of fishing. The length of the leashes is determined taking into account the speed of the current: for the weak, 40 cm or more is recommended, for the strong – up to 25 cm.
If the fish is too cautious (sometimes this happens), it makes sense to use a feeder type of rig with a feeder. At the same time, a nozzle or bait is necessarily added to the bait mixture, which is used for fishing.
Bait for carp can radically change the situation.
Carp fishing enthusiasts willingly share their observations, and this is what they noticed.
In spring, wild carp take better on dung worm, while in summer crucian carp is actively interested in this bait, which reduces all efforts of the fisherman to nothing. Therefore, in the warm season, there is nothing left but to replace the worm with other baits. Usually this is a dense pea porridge with the addition of semolina or potatoes, cooked aldente (until half cooked).
Good results can be achieved with attachments such as flavored dough, boilies prepared on its basis and corn (boiled or pickled in store), catching carp with sunflower cake also gives good results. In the spring, many anglers prefer to fish for tender barley meat, which the carp eats with great contentment.
Helpful advice! The first thing to do after catching a carp is to lift the rod up at an angle of 60 degrees, push the handle against any solid object and try to hold it in this position for several minutes.
There can be no question of instant play. It is definitely not possible to take a formidable enemy unceremoniously, correct tactics are needed here. It consists in exhausting him, making him stop and only then getting him out of the water. The main thing is not to panic, to keep your nerves in check, to do everything neatly and without unnecessary haste.
