Poachers and fishing with nets

Each body of water has a certain amount of fish, which is constantly changing under the influence of various factors. They can be conditionally divided into two categories: natural (natural) and artificial. The first group includes the features of a particular reservoir, food supply, the presence of predators and … perhaps that’s all. There are many more artificial factors, from pollution to fishing pressure. All this, of course, harms the underwater population, but not as huge as poaching and fishing with nets.

Sometimes, you throw a spoon, you catch a net for fishing, and in it there are several live individuals and dozens of dead ones. Such fishing gear is of little value, especially Chinese products. You can buy them for a penny. Therefore, poachers never take them off. And sometimes they even forget where they put it. There is such a net Chinese in the water and catches a fish big and small. It catches for years until it rots in the water along with the caught fish.

Today on fishing sites and not only there are articles written in defense of fishing with nets. If you wish, you can even find detailed instructions on how to install the networks correctly, in what places, how to disguise them so that no one can see. The authors of such publications (most likely they themselves are poachers) try to justify the extermination of fish stocks using prohibited methods. Say, this is not poaching and there is nothing wrong with catching a few heads with a net. This is not an electric fishing rod, it does not kill young animals.

They also hide behind the rural population living on the banks of large rivers. They write that people in villages are forced to fish with nets in order to feed their families. Does one family really need 10-15 kg of fish daily? Unlikely. A person who has lived most of his life near a large waterway could long ago learn to provide himself and his loved ones with fish, having only a couple of fishing rods in his arsenal.

Every day there are more and more poachers – netters. Even some amateur anglers, looking at the huge catches of poachers, throw their tackle into a far corner and pick up a net. They are not stopped either by the moral aspect of the issue, nor by the laws on fishing, nor by the penalties prescribed in them for fishing with nets.

Fish in the netPoaching is taking on a truly massive scale. As a result, a difficult situation has arisen when a true law-abiding fisherman simply has nowhere to fish. Nowadays, it is quite difficult to find a reservoir where you can enjoy your favorite activity by pulling a couple of trophy fish out of the water. At best, you have to be content with a tiny fish, which does not bring either sports or gastronomic joy. But practically on all lakes there are kilometer-long orders of nets, and in broad daylight. All the fault is the lack of real punishment from the state authorities, therefore poachers are engaged in their black business brazenly and openly.

Why do people become poachers? If you think about it, there are several explanations for this choice. The first is insatiability. How greedy one must be to destroy nature, regardless of morality and laws! To draw up a psychological portrait of such a person, you need only a few words: greedy, arrogant, lazy and very stupid. Stupid, because he does not think about tomorrow, when there will be nowhere to catch and nothing. And how else to explain the completely meaningful extermination of fish? The overwhelming majority of poachers fish with nets solely for profit. They are driven by the only desire – to make a profit without investing either labor or funds.

Fisherman with a netThe second reason is the inaction of the state. Legislatures issued laws, after which they considered their mission fulfilled, and the executive branch wanted to spit on what comes from above. Everything remained on paper. As a result, we have an absolute lack of control. Any fishing net can be purchased without any problems and can be successfully used. From time to time, the penalty for fishing with nets increases, but this does not affect the situation in any way. To fine a poacher, he must first be caught. How can this be done if fisheries supervision appears only in certain sections of large rivers located near large settlements, and even then very rarely? As a rule, during the spawning period. There is nothing to say about provincial reservoirs, not a single inspector has ever been seen there.

Self defense

In such conditions, those who like to sit at dawn with a fishing rod in their hands have no choice but to suppress acts of violence against nature on their own. It can be dangerous at times, especially when poachers call for help. But no one talks about the need to enter into an unequal battle with them. You can go the other way. For example, call the police so that the perpetrators hear it. Usually this technique forces them to go home. Finally, you can call the same fishery inspection, although they almost always answer that now all employees are busy, so no one will come in the near future. Sometimes they ask for the number of the car in which the poachers arrived. Well, thanks for that too.

Burn fishing netsSome fishermen fight nets with their own methods. They go out on a boat, collect nets, take them ashore and burn them at the stake. Perhaps, from a legal point of view, this is not entirely legal, after all, someone else’s property, but what to do if the poachers are insolent to the limit. When it comes to the preservation of natural resources and the ability to engage in sport fishing in the future, any means are good.

Long gone are the days when fishing was considered a way of obtaining food. In our civilized age, you can buy any food in the store. Fishing, on the other hand, has turned into an active holiday that allows you to relax after hard working days and forget about pressing problems. In order to be able to rest in the future, it is necessary to eradicate poaching and preserve the fish that still remain in our reservoirs.
