Catching asp – the most effective ways
Asp is a worthy opponent not only for the novice angler, but also for the pros. Catching a specimen weighing per kilogram is considered a great success. To pull such a trophy ashore, you will have to “sweat” a lot, because it always offers desperate resistance.
But first, the cautious and quick-witted Sharesper (second name) must be found and deceived. That is, to present him with bait without arousing any suspicion. Fishermen have come up with many ways to catch asp for this, and each of them is good in its own way. Since the asp is a clear predator, it is most often caught on a spinning rod. Let’s start with her.
For fishing asp on a spinning rod, the same set is used as for a pike, only it is better to replace the braid with a thinner one – up to 0.14 mm. The fact is, he rarely comes close to the shore, so the bait has to be thrown quite far, and the thick line sails too much. Everything else is the same as for a toothy predator, except perhaps a metal leash.
Immediately after spawning in the spring, the object of the catch rises to the upper horizons, where it can be successfully caught until the autumn cold snaps. Favorite places – sections of the river near the shoals, rifts, behind locks and dams. During the day, in such places, he hunts for bleak at the very surface, posing as loud splashes. If you are lucky enough to find an active “fight” of the asp at an attainable distance, we can assume that the fishing is a success.
The lures for this predator are imitations of small fish, and not necessarily accurate ones. For example, a small spinner or vibrator.
Castmasters up to 5 cm long proved to be excellent: on sunny days – yellow, and in cloudy weather – silver.
They need to be thrown not in the center of the “boiler”, but slightly to the side, so that the spoon passes a meter or a half. In such fishing, the spinning player must be able to apply the bait as accurately as possible. Before falling, it should be slowed down, and after contact with water, immediately start a quick wiring to prevent it from sinking. Spoon lures should go 15-20 cm below the surface.
Surface wobblers for asp can also be considered as a catchy bait, but given the need for long distance casting, the expediency of their use is questionable. In range, the wobbler is a poor competitor to a heavy castmaster. Although, of course, no one forbids fishing with it.
In fishing for asp with a spinning rod, good tackle control and the ability to find shelter on the shore play an important role. It is easy to scare it away, so it is advisable to catch it from behind a bush, hiding behind a boulder or even sitting. Only the highest class anglers are capable of this. By the way, professionals can determine the approximate weight of a predator by the force of the blow with its tail, with which it suppresses its prey – small fish.
The bite of the asp is impossible to miss. This strong fish attacks in such a way that you can hardly hold the spinning rod. Even a medium sized specimen will give you an adrenaline rush.
Catching asp on a bombard
This tackle is more suitable for fishing in the spring, while the predator has not yet risen too high. If there is a desire to fish for it in the summer, then it is better to fish in the pits early in the morning. Catching asp with a bombard involves fishing both from the shore and from a boat, but in both cases, you need to be as careful as possible to the place of fishing.
The rig consists of the following elements:
- main line;
- bombard (floating or sinking float);
- lock bead;
- hook with bait.
The advantage of sbirulino over the standard rigging of a fly rod lies in one of its functional purposes. Namely, the ability to cast very light lures over a considerable distance.
Bombard allows you to deliver live bait, fly, streamer or small crank to a promising point, being 35-40 meters from it. The fishing technique is simple: the lure is carried out with short bursts, between which the asp usually bites.
Live bait rod
I wonder how the Shereper, in the absence of anterior gripping teeth (he has only double-row pharyngeal teeth), became such a pronounced predator? But God is with them, with teeth. The main thing is that he is interested in small fish, which means that you can catch this fish on live bait with a float rod. It is desirable to equip it with a thin inconspicuous fishing line, and use small narrow-bodied fish as baits.
Such fishing is relevant in June during the spawning of bleak – the main food of asp. You can fish it with the help of a floating craft, anchored near the “boiler” and letting live bait go downstream. In this case, the spool must have an adequate supply of line.
The second way is to fish out of the way. Armed with a long fishing rod, the fisherman enters the water just above the roll and releases the bait 30 meters downstream. Twitching with the tip of the rod makes the fish swim halfway, then approach the surface, to which the asp will surely react.
It is noticed that this predator is much less afraid of a person standing in the water than of boats. Probably, this is why freak fishing is almost always effective. Especially if you manage to quietly enter the river and behave this way throughout the fishing.
The most suitable places for catching asp with fly fishing tackle are the rifts, on which debris carried out by the stream accumulates. Also, you can count on a decent catch on sections of the river with steep banks, overgrown with trees and bushes. Insects that are part of its diet often fall from their branches into the water.
The most effective bait for fly fishing is a streamer – a special fly made of very soft materials: lurex, animal hair, feathers, woolen threads, tinsel and others. They are usually caught in the wild and in the wind, which helps to further throw light streamers. After casting, the bait carried away by the current is removed to the required distance, after which it is slowly pulled up in short jerks. A methodical fishing of the selected spot with a long fly-off sometimes gives excellent results.
Such fishing is very tiring and requires good physical training. Successful fly fishing is not only about accurate hits and the right streamer, but also hard work with a long massive rod.
This tackle for asp is somewhat different from the one that carp anglers use to bring bait. It is made of any material with positive buoyancy. Most often it is polystyrene and wood. It is important that the structure is stable, otherwise a strong wind can nullify all efforts. Drawings of such tackle (including mast tackle) are on many fishing sites, but you should not try to make the first one that catches your eye. It is necessary to familiarize yourself with several options, their characteristics, feedback from anglers and choose a design with the best stability-invisibility ratio.
The boat works on the principle of a kite, only it is not air, but a water stream that sets it in motion. On the main line of the rig, at a distance of 5-6 meters from the floating element, there are leashes with hooks on which live baits are mounted. Leashes are attached with swivels to avoid twisting. The baited boat is allowed to cross the current in such a way that it reaches the area of the supposed congestion of asp. To attract a predator, the bait is raised from time to time above the water.
The use of this kind of tackle requires certain skills and endurance. Unlike a fishing rod, you will not pull it out after every bite, especially since many of them turn out to be blank. The boat is designed to catch a large asp. It is necessary to tune in to this, not paying attention to the attempts of small perch to “bite” the live bait. If the object of fishing does not respond within a few hours, the tackle must be pulled out, the bait must be corrected, and, if necessary, replaced.
No other type of fishing can be compared to catching asp. When a wave suddenly appears, a breaker is behind it, and then the bait instantly disappears under water, it is better to grip the rod firmly in your hands. A burst of immense power will follow immediately. Sometimes it seems that if it were not for the clutch, the strong line would have torn like a cobweb. Here it is, the long-awaited moment! On the hook is a river corsair, crushing the tackle. We must give him his due, he fights nobly.
Trying to save his life, the asp never rushes into the grass or snag. On the contrary, he is striving for space. Where he can show all his power, where he has more chances to emerge victorious from the battle.
