Effect of weather on fish biting

Any changes in the weather greatly affect the behavior of the fish, and, consequently, the likelihood of biting. The degree of influence of a particular weather on each fish is different. For some fish, cloudy weather will be an excellent time for hunting, while for others, on the contrary, a decrease in activity. Learning to understand these changes is the key to becoming a professional.

Influence of weather on biting

There is no unequivocal and universal answer to this question. Fish is a living organism, the habits of which can differ significantly from each other. However, it is still possible to give something general and approximate. For example, hot weather adversely affects fishing and this applies to most fish. During this period, the fish becomes inactive and lethargic.

Pisces can sense impending weather changes much better than humans. With the approach of a thunderstorm, some fish reduce their activity, and some on the contrary, for example, trout.

With a cold snap, the biting of cyprinids noticeably decreases, while a decrease in the activity of pike perch, perch and pike was not observed.

The oxygen balance of the fish is of great importance. Cool weather assimilates the oxygen best of all, and coupled with a little rain, the oxygen level in the water increases much more intensively.

The wind is most often a problem for fishing. The special effect of the wind is noticeable in closed reservoirs (lakes, ponds, reservoirs). This is due to the fact that in such places deep water suffers from a lack of oxygen and, therefore, the upper layers of the reservoir are more preferable for fish. At the same time, the wind drives away the most oxygenated layers.

It is important to know that the influence of weather has a different degree of influence on fish, depending on the topography of the reservoir. Consequently, the weather conditions are of a different nature.

For example, if the bottom of the reservoir is muddy, like the shore, then such fish as climbers or carp will prefer to eat closer to the shore, where the probability of abundant food is higher and the water is saturated with oxygen. Accordingly, the likelihood of catching this fish is higher. In rocky bodies of water, everything works the other way around, therefore, trying to operate with windy weather, as the main reason for poor bite, will not make sense. The same applies to small fish, in a rocky body of water they will seek to look for a calm. The predator, in turn, will dwell where it is easiest to catch prey.

Also to a lesser extent, but still plays a role and the direction of the wind. It is generally accepted that the east wind is always bad for fishing. The reason for this is the geographical location of the country. From the east, as a rule, a warm wind blows, and it also pulls the heat along with it, and given the fact that fish are more comfortable in a cool reservoir and the weather, they feel much better than us and will seek to hide at depth.

Again, you cannot apply wind direction to fishing. You need to proceed from what kind of fish you are hunting. So, trout or chub, on the contrary, greet the wind because, thanks to it, more insects blown away by the wind find themselves in the water and become easy prey. At the same time, the fish itself will quietly wait for its prey behind a stone, in the shade and closer to the shore.

The personal experience of the fisherman also plays an important role in assessing the weather conditions for fishing. Own observations, formed due to the experience of fishing in their own, frequently visited bodies of water, is of great value. However, for a beginner fishing enthusiast, the described above will be enough. Thanks to them, the reader gets the right vector in the field of behavior and attitude of fish to the weather.
